MANdolinMAN

MANdolinMAN, Belgium's finest mandolin quartet, plays traditional Flemish tunes in a very eclectic and modern way. The group was founded in 2011 and toured since then several times in Canada, Brasil, Scandinavia, France, Spain and Germany.  Played on four mandolins, the traditional music takes on new forms and the historic melodies are injected with a modern and contemporary vigour.

After two successful albums of contemporary arrangements of traditional Flemish
music (“Old Tunes, Dusted Down” & “Unfolding The Roots”), MANdolinMAN, along with Mathijs Bertel (Ansatz Der Maschine), are taking it a step further. The ancient melodies get a complete makeover by adding beats, samples and soundscapes to form the perfect soundtrack for Jonas Van Thielen's transcription of “Houtekiet” (1939).
Gerard Walschap’s classic Flemish novel reflects very well the universal and timeless
character of this collection of songs and the contrast between old and new. This
feverish epic centering on the foundation of the village of Deps and its central
character, the irresistible, primitive wildman Jan Houtekiet is a pagan gospel about

the origin of civilization, human nature, life and death.
